Germany >> Mittelrhein >> Rotwein
Mittelrhein belongs to the northern cultivation areas of Germany. With its 600 ha it is also one of the smallest growing areas. The cultivation area begins north of Bingen and stretches along the Rhine to shortly before Bonn. The Rhine also regulates the climate. It serves as a heat store until late in autumn and in summer it cools on many sunny days. The main grape varieties are Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Spätburgunder. The clay slate and greywacke (sandstone in clayey soils) determine the character of the wines.
