Portugal is a land of contrasts. On the map, this long and slender land seems to be crushed by neighbors Spain. Nevertheless, Portugal has an enormous variety of wines. 500 indigenous grape varieties count the country. From the river Minho to the Algarve, there are on a length of 560km about 240,000 hectares of vineyards. For three centuries, Portugal's wines have been in the shadow of port wine, but for the last 20 years, the country has been in a mood of upheaval. The wines of Douro and Dao, without forgetting the Vinho Verde, are experiencing a new start. This success has also brought more unknown areas such as Alentejo and Estremadura into the limelight.
