Italy >> Kampanien

Campania is the region around Naples. At the time of the Roman Empire, the region with Pompeii as the wine capital became the center of the Italian wine trade. Until the 16th century, the wines of Campania, then aswell known as the Kingdom of Naples, were considered to be the best in Italy. After that, it was much quieter for the local wines. Only in the last 30 years has this changed again with many quality-oriented new wineries. With 42,000 hectares, the Mediterranean climate, lots of sunshine and the volcanic soil are an ideal basis for viticulture. Most wines are made from local grape varieties. The most famous and most important red grape is the Aglianico, while the main players for the whites are Greco Bianco and Falanghina.
