Italy >> Lombardei

Located in north-western Italy, with Milan as its center, Lombardy borders on the Swiss region of Ticino in the north. The region has 22,500 hectares of vineyards, with the best areas close to Lake Como and the Lake Garda, mainly between Bergamo and Verona.
The northern climate usually produces fresh, light white wines as well as the best sparkling wines of Italy with classic bottle fermentation (Franciacorta). The reds offer freshness aswell and work best in the warmest parts of Lombardy.
The white varieties are often Chardonnay, various Trebbiano variants, Garganega as well as Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio. Important red grape varieties are Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Lambrusco and Sangiovese.
