Whisky
Single Malt Whisky wird aus Gerste hergestellt. Zuerst wird sie in Wasser eingeweicht. Nach etwa 3 Tagen Ruhe fängt sie an zu keimen und wird meist über einem Torffeuer getrocknet (Torfgeschmack). Diese gemalzte Gerste wird mit heißem Wasser in Maischebottichen gemischt und ergibt eine süßliche Lösung. Durch Zugabe von Hefe wird die Gärung eingeleitet und nach 2 Tagen ist die vergorene Maische bereit zur Destillation. Nach 2 Destillationen muss der Brand mindestens 3 Jahre in gebrauchten Holzfässern reifen, um Whisky genannt werden zu können. Single Malt Whisky lagert in der Regel mehr als 8 Jahre. Durch die lange Reifezeit im Fass wird der Whisky aromatischer und verliert an Schärfe, und verleiht ihm seine Bernsteinfarbe. Mit Quellwasser auf Trinkstärke verdünnt, kann er abgefüllt werden.
